Call for Nominations: The 2025 LSA Awards
The Lagos Studies Association is accepting nominations for its 2025 Awards. The deadline is March 15, 2025.
1) Distinguished Scholar Award
• Past winners are: Kristin Mann (2017), Ayodeji Olukoju (2018), Jonathan Haynes (2019), Peju Layiwola (2021), Karin Barber (2022), Laurent Fourchard (2023), and Mojubaolu Olufunke Okome (2024)
• Nominees do not have to be members of the LSA
• Prospective awardees must be senior academics who have published research articles or/and academic books/monographs that helped shape new directions in Lagos and Nigerian studies
• Nomination should include a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae of the nominees and a 1000-
word narrative clearly explaining why the recipients deserve the award
• Both members and non-members of the LSA can submit a nomination
• The award comes with a beautiful plaque, a thunderous clap, and a standing ovation!
• The award will be formally presented at the 9th Annual LSA Conference, June 17-21, 2025

2) Distinguished Personality Award
• Past winners are: Honorable Adekunle Alli (2018), Nike Okundaye (2019), Olasupo Shasore (2021), Aduke Gomez (2022), Femi Odugbemi (2023), and Jahman Anikulapo (2024)
• Nominees do not have to be members of the LSA
• Prospective awardees must be non-academic practitioners who have made significant contributions to Lagos and Nigerian politics, society, or economy.
• Nomination should include a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae of the nominees and a 1000-
word narrative clearly explaining why the recipients deserve the award
• Both members and non-members of the LSA can submit nominations
• The award comes with a beautiful plaque, a thunderous clap, and a standing ovation!
• The award will be formally presented at the 9th Annual LSA Conference, June 17-21, 2025

3) Best Doctoral Thesis Award
• Open to a doctoral thesis on Lagos or Nigeria completed in any university in the world and successfully defended in 2024
• Nomination must include a 1000-word narrative on the significant contribution of the thesis to
Lagos and Nigerian studies. It must also highlight methodological and theoretical innovation or uniqueness
• The award will be formally presented at the 9th Annual LSA Conference, June 17-21, 2025
• The award comes with a plaque
• The LSA would guide the recipient of this award in revising her or his thesis into a publishable
book or/and journal manuscripts

4) Best Graduate Student Paper Presented at the Annual LSA Conference
• This award goes to the best paper presented by a graduate student at LSA 2024
• The award comes with a plaque
• The award will be formally presented at the 9th Annual LSA Conference, June 17-21, 2025
• Send the full paper presented at the 2024 LSA Conference to:

• The LSA would guide the recipient of this award in revising their paper into a publishable
journal manuscript
• Self-nomination is allowed
